Compassion in Politics responds to the publication of Sue Gray's report into Downing Street parties
Responding to the publication of Sue Gray’s investigation into the parties at Downing Street during Covid lockdowns, Co-Director of Compassion in Politics Jennifer Nadel said:
“Gray's report must be the lightening-rod that sparks a complete renewal of the culture, values, and standards in our politics.
Can we keep in touch?
“New rules are needed that ensure political leaders behave with integrity, compassion, and respect. To restore faith in the system of governance, oversight of ministerial behaviour must as a priority be taken out of the hands of the government. We cannot allow Ministers to mark their own homework. We urgently need a new law to prevent rogue politicians from lying to the public and to sufficiently penalise those who do. And we need all politicians, no matter their party, to step up and stand up for the values of respect, decency, and compassion. Let’s learn the lessons of this sordid affair and build something better in its wake.”
