I am writing to you as a constituent to ask if you will attend the debate this Monday 23rd on honesty in politics.\n\nAs you will know, the repeated instances of dishonesty and deception by rogue politicians has caused immense damage to the public’s faith in politics and the reputation of those who work within it. Unless something is done, standards will continue to slip, hostility will grow, and poor decision-making will become the norm.\n\n I am not alone in wanting action: Over 200,000 people have signed a Compassion in Politics petition calling for new rules to cement honesty at the heart of our political system [1]. A Bill presented by Liz Saville Roberts MP received cross-party support [2]. And polling, also by Compassion in Politics found that 3 in 4 people supported Liz’s proposed Bill [3]. \n\n Please use the opportunity we have this Monday to lead the change. Please attend the debate in parliament (at 4.30pm in Westminster Hall) and speak in favour of an honest politics. \n\n Thank you,
